Iowa Code chapter 103 states that “an applicant for a Class A Journeyman license shall have successfully completed an apprenticeship training program registered by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training of the United States Department of Labor…” Such programs are traditionally offered by the area trade organizations. For more information about the traditional apprenticeship programs, please contact the Iowa Apprentice Liaison at 515.284.4690. The Electrical Examining Board has also recognized the training programs of some technical schools as equivalent to the Department of Labor (DOL) requirements and have provided avenues for their graduates to obtain Journeyman electrical licenses. Contact information for the accepted programs is listed below. If you wish to have your electrical program approved, please submit appropriate approval form listed in the Post Secondary Electrical Programs section.
